i remember seeing before someone had put a aw71 or something behind a b20. the car has to stay auto. i was looking to put somthing in with a OD. i looked at the aw71 and the bellhousing isn,t removable like bw35. i know the zf auto from the 240 has a removable bell housing , but i haven't seen one in years. any suggestions. thanks

I've had these thoughts too, considering a BMW or Volvo ZF because they do have a removable bellhousing and the Rover V8 (decendant of the Olds/Buick 215 that I have in a 265) also came equipped with a version of the ZF. I've also considered the AW for a B20 but don't know specifically if it can be made to work. The AW bellhousing is also a cover for the overdrive drum and gets attached with bolts from the inside of the housing into the steel drum. There is a large "O" ring that wraps around the drum to seal against the inside of the bellhousing. If the bellhousing can get rotated relative to the rest of the transmission it should work--but I don't know if this can be done--There are a number of wrecking yards in my area (Long Island/metroNY)that have large Volvo inventories--might be good area to look for a ZF. If your interested I'll try to think of the names and make a list of those that might be useful.
