I didn't see the site, but there are fireplace units which use water to produce gas which burns safely and cleanly. The trick is that the amount of electricity needed is $$$$ since it's extremely inefficient, so overall doesn't work. In a car would be nuts .

one of those things that circulates through all the forums every few months. lots of claims of driving to the moon and back on a thimble full of water etc, but so far, nobody has actually seen a functioning unit in operation that I've heard of, and I've chased down that blind alley quite a few times.

No, perfectly legitimate. Water is liquid; so is gasoline. Therefore, the two are perfectly interchangeable.
