Seems like good insurance against a messy problem. The holes are already there and threaded. Cinchy install. I think an 8mm combo wrench is all you need. I've got one on the 1990 240, have been meaning to get one on the 1987 240.

Still not an excuse to neglect the PCV system, though. :-)

Yeah, that's what I think, Ryan. I've only had the plug blow once and that was before I had any idea that the PCV system needed periodic cleaning. It seems like a lot of trouble and money to me to avoid doing regular maintenance.

I removed the two bolts on the rear of the valve cover/cam and put the seal retainer in with the same two screws, Only took a few minutes. No problems ever. I have been running synthetic oil for many years in my 90 240 wagon with 98k miles.

It's tougher then it looks. There is so little room between the Head and the Firewall. I made my own and Slotted the holes so I could get the hardware started in the Head then slip this down over the Bolts and just tighten it up.

Save yourself some time and $$ 200

You can easily make your own retainer from scrap or "home center" metal and two short bolts (10mm hex, 6.0mm thread), very common size.
