First the quiz - what is it:

This valve model does not fit 240s from 89(?) on, because their heater/AC boxes have no hole in which to mount the thermostat, but... if you have the heater box out of the car for some crazy reason, you will note that the flat spot for the hole is there on the drivers side, just as on earlier boxes, and you can cut the hole with a dremel or even a knife.
That's what I did, and the '86 valve works great in the '93 box.
Cutting the hole with the box still mounted in the car would require more twisting than my old body can endure, but it might be possible for the young and small.

Ah - I did not know that. My contortionist ways from working under the dash of my Spitfire may serve me well yet. Thanks for the heads up.

shouldn't we keep commercial comments off bb?
comments on bb should be unbiased. this is not a commercial venue.
this is the second time you've pawned ipd here.
with respect,

I see no problem since Cameron always makes it explicit that he represents IPD. I like knowing that he reads the board. As long as employees of the major parts suppliers don't hide their identity then I have no issue with their occasional plug.
If Jarrod has a problem with it because he's not getting paid for the advertising, that's his business.

i agree with you about that it is jarrod's call.
but if you think about it, why stop with 1 person? let's be fair to all.
what if all the part houses started doing what cameron is doing?
now include those individuals who want to sell volvo parts? (that's called the classified section).
how about schools run by a commercial enterprise, wars fought by a group called blackwater?
the point is who's interest do they have, ours or theirs?
you see what i mean?
so we have 1 guy who declares he works for a parts house. thanks for his honesty, but he is still making a sales pitch, even though it is not blatant.
a sales pitch is a sales pitch.
nothing confusing here, right?
i participate in bb for objective opinions and help, not to read about a sales pitch.
but i'll have bb have the last word:
from brickboard's own acceptable use policy, #10:
"Any commercial activity that is not sanctioned by agreement with the owners and operators of this site will be billed to the offending party at whatever rates the owners and operators of this site find appropriate."
thanks. i value your opinion.

I have never met Cameron, but he has been a part of the Volvo community in Oregon for about a decade now, and he has been active on these forums with repair advice for just as long. He has owned several older RWD Volvos, and has actually turned a wrench on them.
My impression is that his affinity to Volvo's lead to his employment at IPD, and not the other way around.

Hey guys -- so I didn't realize my post would cause trouble! That certainly wasn't my intention. I was simply trying to point out that a part that was unavailable for a long time, is in fact, able to be had. I'm not trying to sell one to anyone. Sharing knowledge and disclosing that there are in fact parts available that many didn't realize were, is somewhat the point of these forums, no?
I was a 240 NUT long before they recruited me to work here - I still am a 240 nut now that I do work here - and will continue to be a 240 nut after I don't work here anymore. BUT if you guys would rather I stay off Brickboard, then OK, I will.
Best,
Cameron

Like Shayne, before you, your input is always appreciated! Looks like you are endeavoring to get your vintage knowledge base all honed up. I believe I read in an IPD newsletter that you are primarly a 240 guy but retraining yourself on vintage ground.
I say, keep stopping by, man!!
I'm inclined to encourage any vendor in the the niche market that is vintage Volvos to stay visible. We drive our cars because we can get parts. Without the commitment of the manufactures we will end up with cars we can no longer drive.
OBTW, I drive 1968 or earlier Volvos only... EVERY DAY, by damn!

What a hornets nest I managed to kick in my excitement at finding an OEM replacement heater valve.
Cam - I think the brevity of your initial post and link to the item made it sound like a sales pitch - though I didn't know that they were available again and was under the impression they'd turned into unobtainium. So while I don't need another one, it's a useful bit of knowledge which I appreciate.
Otherwise, what is said is said - if anyone feels the need to hash out the advertising policy, why don't we take it over to the opinions section for further discussion.
Cheers,
Zach

Well - I take it back - I found a rare part.
I was misinformed - and glad to know that there is still a source of the proper valves.
|
|

They were gone for 2 or 3 years, maybe more. Then recently IPD (and maybe others) found a new source.
Where did yours come from?

...that someone on this board would have mentioned that a certain Volvo store in Oregon has this part, rather than an employee of said Oregon store having to post an advertisement for it.

I'll bet you paid a lot less than IPD charges, though.

You got it. New, old stock, unused, and ready to give another 15 years+ of service rather than the plasticky Scanpart kit offered by FCP, EEuro and the other usual suspects. Sadly, I didn't find a box of them - just this one.

Where'd ya find it???
I want one... trade you an old broken one for the new un-broken one... broken is better.
