Low idle when in park or drive -- 94 940 900

Hello,
My '94 940 b230 is idling too low when in park or drive (~600rpms, causes shaking) but is perfect (900rpms) when in neutral. What can I do to increase the idle speed?

No engine codes.

New filter, about 10k on cap, plugs, wires.

Thanks a lot!

The Idle Air control valve is the "only" device that controls your idle rpm, nothing else you can do.

I wouldn't say thay 600 rpm is too bad, it should be 750 rpm though.
It's a very expensive valve but you can get one in the junk yard and replace it to test it, it's not difficult at all to do.

You have to be sure if your system is a Regina or Bosh, different shape, Regina is much more expensive, check this link:

You can also take it out and clean it with carburator cleaner, be carefull the cleaner doesn't get into the electrical mechanism, just clean the valve.

      Where is it located?

I definitely have a vaccum leak but can't find it (a/c/heat vents are erratic and cruise control is weak), could this be an issue w/ the Idle control valve?

What does the adjustable bolt that has two plastic ends and 2 8mm nuts do? I have adjusted that before to increase the idle but its results seem to be erratic. The reason I adjusted it was I put a b230 engine from a 240 into my 940 and it was idling too low after that swap. (Other then that the engine runs incredibly well).

      Thanks a lot!

The adjustment screw on the throttle body and the adjustable arm on the throttle linkage are only meant to adjust for proper operation of the butterfly plate inside the TB. i.e., fully closed at no throttle, almost fully open at full throttle and smooth operation between. With that being said, it is possible to change the idle speed by changing the adjustment of these and I have done it as a temporary solution until I had time to find the real problem.
Like another poster said, the idle air control valve is highly suspect and should be cleaned and checked for proper operation. Another possible culprit could be your throttle position switch. It's basic function is to act as an on/off switch for the IAC and improper adjustment will cause idle problems.
Both of these items are covered fairly well in the FAQ section.
Good luck and if you run into something thats not covered in the FAQ I'm confident that someone here can help you.
