245DL B230F Won't start after cold night X2 200 1988

Hello All,
I have a problem that I am unsure of how to approach. Two weeks ago my 245 would not start after sitting a few days in 10-20 degree F weather. It would turn over and sound as though it was starting to fire but then would just continue the same behavior. I removed the front tube on the throttle body and sprayed a good amount of starting fluid in and reattached it, still nothing. I took 12oz of antifreeze and put it in the gas tank which had about 10 gallons in it. After it warmed up a few days later I tried it and she started and ran great for the next two weeks. We left her sit again for a few days and it got cold. I tried to start her this am and the same thing happened, sounds as if she will start and then won't. I replaced the MAF sensor a few years ago and it is warranted, I have the 4pt cross fire platinum plugs in that about the same age. The plug wires are original but in great shape(175k), the cap and rotor button are about 3 years old as well. Timing belt is only about 8 months old maybe 1ok on that. Any advice on this would be appreciated!
Take care,
Noel Smith

Checking all fuse contacts good idea. And battery condition. But, again, it's the plug contact with fuel pump relay. I've experienced same thing dozens of times in 25+ years of driving bricks. Unplug and replug. I'll bet it starts. Might want to replace soon.

    Noel,

The plug wires are original but in great shape(175k)

The plug wires should be replaced even if they look OK. They are twenty years old. I consider plug wires a normal maintenance item to be renewed whenever plugs, cap, and rotor are replaced.

Your cold start problem could be any number of things, especially since it happens after the car sits a few days. Starting fluid made no difference; I don't think the problem is fuel related, but spark related. Replace the plug wires, charge the battery, and try to start it again. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Moisture or water in fuel freezing in lines or pump??? Add fuel antifreeze (drying agents) when it is warm again.

i would be real suspicious of the battery and /or voltage regulator, (if the battery is in marginal condition then the cold temp can cut the battery output in half if its ten degrees for example--and this is big trouble when you have 2 fuel pumps to run , but the problem might be a voltage regulator thats not allowing the alternator to put out 14 volts approx. i had this problem once. don't fall into the trap of worrying about the sensors and computer etc., it's not usually the problem because they are extremely reliable
