"OEM' or Dealer 200

Putting a new distributor cap & rotor on the 88 240. I know Bosch is the way to go. I understand that Bosch supplies them to Volvo. But I've also been told that there is a difference in quality between parts that are supplied to car manufacturers and those supplied to the OEM market - by the same parts maker.

True? Urban Legend? Who knows......?

The difference is that actual original equipment way back when was made in Germany and was of top quality, and the replacement "OEM" parts, while made by Bosch, are manufactured all over the world and are often inferior. I have seen Bosch parts made in Germany, Spain, Slovenia, Mexico, Brazil and India, and maybe a couple of others as well, that I can't remember at the moment. The Indian spark plugs were truly awful, which is only one of the reasons I prefer NGKs.

Definitely true on some items, like windshields, I believe.

However, not true for most things like dizzy caps, rotors, etc, etc. Stay away from Bosch plug wires.
