240 steering racks interchangability 200

I have an 82 245 with worn out inner and outer tie rods. I've got a part 90 245 with good tie rods. The 82 has a ZF rack and the 90 has a CAM rack. I'm wanting to swap the entire rack with inner and outer tie rods. Is there any problems with this idea?
As far as I know the outer tie rods are the same regardless of year or type of rack. I think the power steering hoses are the same size too.

It seems like it would just be a matter of loosening the outer tie rods front the rest of the front suspension. Disconnect the p/s lines from the rack. Then unbolt the old rack and bolt in the new rack.

Am I missing anything? What else needs to be considered?

Thanks

    240 steering racks interchangability - hoses 200

I can't comment on the 90-to-82 part as I've never done that.

I've done several of this mixing 83-up racks into 84-91 cars. It's all a bolt-in except for the hoses. There are (at least) 3 different hose "configurations" - the "" because that's probably not the right word.

The face for the banjo fittings is at different angles and in slightly different placements in the various racks so what happens is that you ave to twist old hoses to meet up with new positions. They don't bend and twist easily.

I also think you have two different pumps - the old GM-style with tank on the motor and the newer design with the plastic tank up by the battery.

Net, I've started swapping the tank with the rack as it's easier to align the fittings on the bench. But that won't be an option for you going 1990 to 82.

You might, however, be able to attach the 82 hoses at the rack end 1st and then clamp them to the tank after you bolt in the rack.
