940 envy 200

Any of you folks get 940 envy? I saw a really nice turbo while out and about today and felt a bit of a twinge.
Cheers
Kevin

I cannot bring myself to get rid of my 91 turbo; 250,000 miles and reliable (just keep fuel pump relay and rpm sensor handly). Still kicks with plenty of power and runs smooth. I keep it in great shape; lots of new parts as general maintenance, including new leather. I'm in winter salt territory, and have minor rust under doors, which I will replace this spring when I repaint the car in my garage (did my 740 and looks great). Like I say, can't get rid of it. It's reliable, stylish (I think) and could not sell it for what it worth to me.

I'm more fond of the vintage rides. I tend to like the early 240s more then the later ones. Just a matter of personal tastes.

I did finally pick up a 122 though:

Those are the ones I get envious of. Never for a newer model.

Maybe I have reverse envy.

Hot damn! I envy that 122! I'm greener with envy than that beautiful color paint. Uggggh!!! It hurts. :-)

Congrats. I definitely (and deeply) envy folks who own, and can house, vintage Volvo's. I would love a nice Amazon, PV, 164, 144 or P1800. But our geographic location is too fugly, dirty, and salty. Plus one of our current cars would loose its home in the carport...

Yeah, I guess I have it. I also have a 245 with 220k on it . The ole car runs great , doesn`t leak any where and great on gas . On the other hand I have two 940 turbo`s . One is a 92 with 166k with no leaks , runs like a scalded dog and handles like a dream . The other is a 91 940se that has 51k on it and looks like new in and out . I searched a year for it and found it on ebay . Florida car thats been garaged . I had to pay for it and more than most people would consider . It was a gift for my wife . On the way back some guy in a sweet mustang with a big tach on the dash and loud exhaust , nice paint and looked like a drag car decided to show me how tuff it was . I dropped in behind him and he never left me . The 940t cars ride better and handle better stock than a lot of cars with up graded suspension systems and most especially the 940se. The down fall that I can see is gas mileage . But there is a special place for the 245 and there is so much good about the car that I can`t put it down whatsoever . I recently had to make trips from Virginia to Alabama which ended up to the burial of my dad and I never hesitated to take the 245 . I think in the near future I will have to get rid of a couple and I really hate it but I have to many and I don`t want any of them to suffer not being taken care of . I love to talk volvo . Larry

We have a pretty '91 745, so no. :-)

I do get major 740/940 envy when fixing anything on a 240. Then to top it off, I see all of the rust on my '90 245.

FYI, you can cure that 940 envy right quick by buying one. They're dirt cheap compared to 240's.

Can someone please explain to me how a 940 would cost less than a 240? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

240's have some insane cult following, that all of us probably subscribe to at least in part. As a result, a truly mint 240 (especially a wagon) can sometimes sell for well over $5,000. There *are* people out there with deep pockets that'll gladly pluck down that kind of money on a good 240. One locally sold for $6500.

The 740/940 never caught that cult car status, and despite being a better, more comfortable car, they are literally a dime a dozen. We picked up our nearly mint '91 740 (immaculate leather seats, nary a rattle to be found, garaged since new, 3rd seat, etc etc.) for I think $1700. I had a friend who is a total Volvo nut who actually had to give away his meticulously maintained 740 sedan. A 940 *might* bring in perhaps $500 more than a 740... maybe.

It's hard to believe, I know.

I like the 940T, but love the old style 240T. Thats why I put a B230FT into a'91 245. Just my two cents. B.G.
