Battery Seapage cleanup 200

My battery has been seeping some leakage onto interior body/chassis near battery tray. I am going to replace battery tray and battery...any advice on cleaning up the caustic materials in order to minimize further corrosion? Baking soda? Soap and water? Thanks.

What battery recommendations do you have?

Thanks a bunch.

I personally would mix it a little less stiff than "pancake batter" so that it will flow better into all of the nooks and crannies the acid probably got into. Just keep repeating the neutralizing/flushing and when all trace of acid is gone it'll quit foaming.

I have used the baking soda paste to good effect. Dry area with a hair dryer, paint with POR if you want, then krylon to match color. It lasts for several years or until the battery leaks again.

I am using Costco kirkland batteries, they last 4-5 years and they are cheap!

A cup of baking soda and water, mixed to the consistency of pancake batter. Slosh it all over. Then hose down with water.

When I bought my '83 in 1986, the battery had frozen and cracked open.
I washed, more than once, the area around the holder and the area underneath it with a spray bottle mixture of baking soda and water, then rinsed it well and I allowed it to dry for a couple of days. Then I primered and painted the area, allowing paint to run into crevices and cracks.
I bought a plastic battery tray that included hold down bolts and bolted onto the battery platform. It is still there today.
