Exhaust repair Help 200 1982

I have been replacing my exhaust system. I ran into a snag when I was disconnecting the old pipe from the front muffler to the catalytic converter. The bolts were so rusted I was only able to remove 1 and snapped 1 off and sheared the bolt faces so there is no more grip....

I don't have a blow torch to cut them off....any suggestions? Everything else is installed properly. just need to get the old pipe off and put the new in??

Thank you all for the advice....I ended up borrowing a rotozip and using a cut-off wheel. Just a few sparks but it got the job done... Thanks once again for the brainstorm.

4 1/2" mini (angle grinder) (Bosch is the balls) with a 4 1/2 " x .045(thick) metal cutoff abrasive x 7/8 arbor . You will love this tool... cuts like butter with a lightshow of sparks. Can also mount a wire cup brush or a radial wire wheel for rapid cleanup of rusty scale. If you wanna grind instead of cut get a 4 1/2 x 1/4 x 7/8 metal gringing wheel. Did I say this will be you favorite toy?

How to cut the bolt 200 1982

    Cut the U-bolt.

If you don't have a Dremel, now is the time to get one, to cut that bolt. Also called a die grinder. Mine is a copycat made by Black & Decker. Cost about $25-30 or so. One of the most useful tools I've ever owned. Mine is a/c powered. There are more expensive ones that run on batteries but I like a/c power if doing serious cutting like through 1/4 inch of steel.

Use it with the fiber-reinforced cutoff wheels sold by Dremel. Not cheap, about $12 for a pack of five. The cheaper cutoff wheels won't last worth a darn.

Also please have a look at my recent thread with photos re. mounting the mufflers.

    Exhaust repair Help 200 1982

I just did this job on Sunday. my clamps were so rusted that they crumbled as soon as I turned the wrench. Made it pretty easy.

If the u-bolt is rusted you may be able to pry it apart with a screwdriver or plyers.

If you are talking about the Muffler Clamps, then you should be able to tap the clamp away from the Muffler toward the Cat. Then when you get the Muffler off, you can slide the broken clamp off.

    Unless I'm reading this wrong.

Torches are so very nice when doing exhaust systems..no doubt
