anti-freeze dripping - parallel to vertical section of header pipe - causes? 200

my 90 240 has begun to loose anti-freeze from the overflow.

after poking around the car, i discovered that there is a leak coming from the area around where the header pipe. it is dripping about 2 inches away from where the header pipe runs vertical to connect to the engine.

i haven't isolated the cause, as it's too cold for jackstands, but i'm wondering - before i bring it in, what the possible causes could be.

has this happened to any brickers out there?
is this going to be a big deal or a small one?

thanks in advance,

g

The block coolant drain is right about in the same area, it is rare that they leak, but if it wasn't fully closed the last time it was used, it could leak.

    Hello G,

It's also possible that the drain-cock is leaking as that is adjacent to the header pipe.

There's a steel tube that runs from the water pump to the rear of the cylinder head under the exhaust manifold. It's not particularly common but they can rust out.

      hi guys,

      all great leads.

i forgot to mention, i did have the water pump changed over christmas, i believe they replaced most of the coolant.

maybe they drained it, but didn't tighten it enough.

i'll check it checked and then post the results.

      gotta love the brickboard!!!

      thanks again,

      g
