Daytime running lights 95 945T 900

I have a new wagon that was by dad's. I have all the service records and it seems that every month a light burns out because of the DRL.
Went to the junkyard and checked out headlight switches but they all look the same.
I want to turn off these daytime running lights. Is there a wire that needs to be cut from the ignition switch to the headlight switch?
Anyone here know the fix?

I hope you tell your insurance company when you have disabled this safety feature?? Also do you think they would pay out if you have an accident with them disabled and you haven`t told them??

I just disabled my DRL's on my 1995 945T, and it was very easy. I sourced a switch from a 1989 740, which has four prongs on the backside of the switch, and simply swapped it in. Very easy, and no DRL's. If you are unable to locate the switch from a junkyard, you can always find them on Ebay.

Cheers,
Ryan

To start with, I totally encourage the use of DRL. Trying to save a few dollars a year on bulbs is false economy compared to getting hit by someone who can't see you. With DRL, you should still be getting roughly 90% of the life span from your charging and lighting systems -rather a minor expense in the grand scheme of things. Some sound systems would make more demands. As for your experience, it is not uncommon to go through a spell where a number of bulbs seem to need replacing. Additionally, loose bulbs in sockets, high output bulbs, poor contacts and hard driving on bumpy roads can all lead to premature filament failure.

I do dislike the reduced intensity headlight or running light form of DRL. Too many people continue driving after dusk thinking all their lights are on when only their headlights are on. I had that feature on my 140 and admittedly made that mistake from time to time when dusk turned to dark.

Now, after giving you that lecture, you can easily over-ride DRL without cutting or moving any wires. You just us an older style switch (either with or without the set screw, depending on market). I admit to having made this mod on our 940's, but not for the purpose of driving during the day without lights, only for being able to use the power windows, open the sun-roof and idle the car for service without having the lights. I cannot, in good conscience, point you to the many discussions we've previously had here on the subject. If you want to find them yourself go ahead, but please consider my warnings. They didn't come up with the DRL requirement just to make the bulb manufacturers richer.

End of rant.

I have the same make and model. I just turn the headlight switch selector knob halfway between the vertical position and the 1:00 position to turn off the DRL.

I had noticed a considerable difference while driving in the noticeable factor using DRL. It is too bad these cars don’t have the refined DRL with head lights only and reduced voltage.

There will be a minor increase in bulb change outs but if you think the lamps are burning out too fast check this link.
