Is every switch on the S90 Junk? S90-V90

Well i go away for a week and I am preparing to return to the land of snow and hoping my 90 a)is still in the parking lot in Toronto and b) runs....
Some real good picking and poking going on in my abscence. I have had really good luck picking a used vehicle. Even my chrysler (that a kind of hate) has been a very good buy so I rely on my instincts and stay with them. Time will tell and you will all hear it if/when failure occurs and you will also share in the sense of accomplishment you get when you make things work. For less than $5 g's I am a happy camper :-)

If it makes you feel any better, here's the list of electric things on my wife's V90 that don't work:

Driver's window auto switch only (only autos sometimes)
    CD player light burnt out
    transmission light burned out
bulb for driver's door emergency light always falls out when you're trying to close the door
    passenger side headlamp wiper dead
Aux air pump (replaced 1.5 years ago)
    tailgate wiper motor is anemic
    brake lights constantly burning out
    Check engine light works fine!

You can probably replace that dome light assembly (switches and all) for about $10 on ebay. It take about 10 minute to swap out.

Is every switch on the S90 Junk? - amazing S90-V90

This is quite an impressive list of failing electrical parts, even worse than the problems in most new BMWs (except the current 7-series - real dogs). Oddly, my wife's 1999 V70 has been electrically trouble free. It's fantastic, everything works.

We're not having any issues at all with our 98 S90 and everything works as Volvo designed it.

If you're counting switches, then you're one better than me. The auto window one works, but the auto function is intermittent. The rest is all bad bulbs that are a pain in the neck to replace and tired wiper motors where you really can live without wipers. Hardly worth selling a good RWD car. Whenever I want the driving lameness of FWD, I'll fire up the Camry and at least enjoy real reliability. :p

hans747, i see you are still enjoying your little bitch!!!! makes the world go round i say. But i still prefere the 150mph FWD to my 960. It sits on the drive waiting for a day out as the T5 FWD is better overall for my uses.

Hi, Told you to get an 850!!! I can`t wait to get rid of my 960. I am waiting for an expensive item to pack up then off of Beachy Head it will go. You have just touched the surface , wait till your engine stops, wait till your handbrake goes west, and most of all your PNP switch. Regards

sorry, but the 850 gets no special reliability points, either. At least that's the opinion I got from the guy at the parts counter at the Volvo dealer. He would know.

Everyone will love this: One day I was in there buying something, and the parts guy had just got done ordering a third transmission (that day!) for the third XC90 that came in on a tow truck (that day!). stay the hell away, my friends.

I think owning one as i did is a fairer judgement of the vehicle. I bought two light bulbs in 14 months. There are thousands of 850`s out there, did they all go to the same parts man?

Is every switch on the S90 Junk? S90-V90

If you want real world comparisons, friends of mine bought a used v70 within about 3 months of us. Our cars were actually the same year, within 15k miles of eachother. Hell, they even had the same color exterior/interior color schemes (blue/tan). Living down the street from them I can say that their car spent just as much time in the shop as ours (though their wife says their spent more time getting fixed). And when I looked up the v70 and v90 of that era in Consumer Reports used car guide, neither vehicle even scored an "average" reliability rating. So it's great that you may have fond opinions/experiences with your 850, but please spare Kenner the admonishment that he should have bought one car instead of the other. Either car would be over 10 years old and the used market at that age is a complete crap shoot.

I bought mine in 2005 with 70,000 miles, cracked leather seats, a good stereo, shiny paint, clean carpets, a few parking lot scratches, and third row for $6,000. Do you think that I care if a bulb in the shifter is burned out? Heck no! At that price, I can count one click for reverse and two more for drive. For me, the engine runs fine, the transmission shifts real smooth, I don't have to worry about CV joints, the brakes don't chatter, etc. Life is good. I'm not going to sweat the little stuff, just run the car till she dies a big smoky death.

Until then, you enjoy your ride, and I will enjoy mine. :)

OOPS!! Missed this message, i do wish that some of you over there would loosen up. Unfortunatly when reading these threads you cannot put any sort of laughter or accent into it so therefore it all sounds wrong when you read it. I don`t mean any harm especially to kenner as he did ask what to buy? You buy what suits yourself and no body else. If you prefer a v70 with nothing working then thats up to you? But i prefer mine.LOL

Hated my last 2 fwds. Specially in the snow.
Once the warmer weather comes along I will start fixing all the little things. Some of it may be because it sat since November in some very cold weather
Got my auto window working today and all the interior light switches but i will stay away from pulling plastics until it gets above zero
