92 245 a pleasent surprise. 200 1992

I have had 700/900 series for years, and all but one was turbo. That 89 700 NA model was my first, and not that great of a specimen.

Now I get my 1st 200 series - a 92 wagon w/145K. I really have enjoyed the way it drives and handles, even seems better when loaded down.

Today I had to drive to Oneonta, AL and go over Chandler Mountain. I have driven up this very steep grade many times with a turbo, and would love how it would just take off and climb it easily - climbing up to 65-70 with no real effort.

Well, today as I approached the grade with the wagon, I was pleasantly surprised as I tapped it out of OD and gave it a bit of gas, watcheing it climb to 65 and keep going - not as fast as the turbo, but no slouch for sure.

I think I am going to really like this car.

I agree. My first Volvo was a 740, then an 850, then an XC70. Last September I bought a 245 on ebay, and it has been my favorite so far. Fun little cars that get you there.

    I drive a 245 since last Aug. I feel it accelerate slow(terrible slow ) from 0 to 60MPH.

But once it pass 60MPH, it seems become another car, easy accelertate expecially in the free way.

My to-do list include : Noise. RUST. AC.

But, I got lot of fun driving an old 245 so far.

Put on IPD sway bars. You'll appreciate it even more. Essential with a 245.

      I confess ..
There was one other 240, but it was bought for my daughter, not me. Then it was stolen.

That car had IPD sway bars on the front and rear - and some really stiff shocks - so it rode REALLY, REALLY HARD. I think it was the shocks that did most of this.

SO, your opinion (or others) ..will IPD bars make it ride a lot harder ...& ...should I do front and rear?

It would be nice to have it handle better, but I don't want it to ride like that other 240 - the one stolen.

Yeah, shocks make the difference in 'hard handling'. Sway bars offer control against body roll, making the big ass easier to deal with.

Not harder, but possibly a little choppier on rough roads since wheels not as independent. BUT, well worth the trade off for tracking on a rail on corners, as well as accident avoidance. Avoid overly firm shocks .

My '84 240 still kicks when I'm in 4th and need to pass...or hurry through a yellow light. They have a decent amount of torque, especially if they are rated to tow 3,000 pounds. (Not in OD of course!)
