Oil backflow problems 700 1987

I have a 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo. The problem I am having is that oil seems to be back pressuring and getting on the alternator. This is coming out of what I call the elbow that connects a hard plastic hose to the elbow and another hose that goes to the crankcase breather box that is on the drivers side of the motor. It is a small black plastic box that oil goes into to the oil pan. I guess it comes from the turbo because that is where the line starts.

I was told to take compressed air and brake parts cleaner and clean the box out and replace it. I did that as well as replacing the o-ring but I am still having problems. If anyone knows the elbow that I am talking about or whatever you want to call it it seems that the oil is getting backed up and going out there.

This is causing me headaches. Already had to get a new alternator. I don't know what to do. Do I have to replace what is called the Crankcase Breather Box?

I really hope that someone out here can help me.

Thank you.

I assume you have a clogged oil separator. The quick fix is done at oil change. Drain the oil and place a funnel in the tube running down to the oil separator. Pour a bottle of motor flush, Berryman chemtool, carb cleaner,etc... anything that will flush the oil separator. This will drain right out of the oil pan plug hole. Let it drain WELL. A clogged oil separator will KILL your turbo. Good luck.

Should't be any oil coming out of the elbow or, I believe it's called, the flame trap. Sometimes the end of the hard plastic tube breaks and doesn't seal well. I ended up replaceing mine with a length of 5/8" ID rubber gas line and a couple of hose clamps. That works alot better.

I don't have a flame trap because I have a B230FT engine. It is a turbo. I looked in the manual and what I am talking about is called the Crankcase Breather Box if I recall the word box. No flame trap though.
