How to start a 240 without a key? (in junkyard) 200

Perhaps someone has researched this and will save me the trouble. It's a 1990 244 B230 automatic. I want to check the engine and trans before buying them.

Jumper wires at Fuse Panel and Firewall Service Socket 200 1990

    Fuse Panel +12V source—
Key On circuits are powered as if by Ign. Sw. terminal 15.
Jumper from LEFT side of any fuse 6 thru 10 (same as Ignition switch 30) to LEFT side of any fuse 9-10-11 (same as Ignition Switch 15).

    Firewall Service Socket—
A jumper wire from the Service socket to the Battery + terminal will energize the starter.
(Via the Neutral Safety Switch if car has Auto Transmission.)

Look for a short wire coming out of the thick bundle that crosses the upper firewall. It's about 6" long with female spade terminal end, inside black plastic housing. Wire color is Blue, but probably covered by Black insulation.
(May be hard to find. Near car's center I think.)

By removing the ignition switch off of the back of the lock cylinder you can then use a key or screwdriver to turn the electrical portion of the switch. To switch is attached to the lock via a pair of screws on the back side of the lock. This is how I started my '82 for a time while diagnosing a problem. YMMV as electrically a '90 is very different than an '82.

You're right! just powering the ignition coil won't power the fuel pumps or computers, you must use the ignition switch method.

It's easy to remove the electric connection, but to turn the switch requires removal of the steering column. In short, just grab and wiggle the connector off the back of the switch

I shall illustrate with a spare column:

        In short,
connect #30 to #15 for ignition on
connect #30 to #50 to start the car

        Good Luck!!!
