What happens if YOU press these two buttons simultaneously? 700

I'm still trying to fix my 780's power seat problem described in a recent thread*, but in the process I noticed something odd:

If I push the seatback handle down, and press any seat switch in any direction, the footwell courtesy light comes on, as well as the 'fasten your seatbelt' sound, but that one only for the fore/aft switch. (The switches don't move the seat.)

Would anyone be so kind to try this on their 7xx power seat? I have no idea what is wrong with mine, but if this is abnormal, it might help pinpoint the problem.

Thanks!!

- Matt

Missing volts, hidden relays? 700 1990

I investigated the situation with the wiring diagram and multimeter in hand. The main result is that the power to the drivers' power seat (red wire at the "connector at seat", "B" in the wiring diagram) in fact has no power. Zero volts. Furthermore, there is no continuity between this red wire at that connector and the fuse 24 poles, where it's supposed to get power from. I find this perplexing, since the wiring diagram suggests it's just a straight wire between these two points. Also, the orange wire on the same connector is powered just fine. Any ideas?

Thinking about how this can possibly be (short of a freak red wire disconnect somewhere, but to check that it seems I'd have to rip the entire interior out, pretty much??) I noticed that the wiring diagram mentions a "Blocking Relay", but under the seat there are actually two relays to be found, right next to each other at the front of the seat. (No, I'm not talking about the heating pad relay.) Does anyone know what this second relay is supposed to be for? I can't find any reference to it anywhere in the wiring diagrams.

Thanks!! I'd really like to get this ^%!@%^## seat unstuck and fit into my car again..

    - Matt

Just a guess, but it sounds like you have a grounding problem.

Yes, I agree... the relevant grounding point seems to be near the e-brake on the center console. I haven't had any luck trying to get at it, the plastic is very stubborn.

Well, I found the grounding point, cleaned and sanded the connectors, put things back: seat still dead. Swapped the control unit with another: nothing. Swapped the under-seat relays with those from the passenger side (which works fine): nothing. I'm ready to give up and drive it to the dealer, except I can't physically fit behind the wheel anymore!

If I take the seat out, is it then possible to put it further back ('aft') on the tracks?

        - Matt
