240 transmission swap 200

I'm planning on replacing the transmission from a 1986 240 with one of a 1987 740. Are they direct replacements? What are the differences if any?

Thanks,

Vic

      Unfortunately both are automatic.

TAke the owners manual out of the glove box, and see what you have down there.
Also fcpgroton.com has a very comprehensive list of what goes where / when.
Changing part for part is relatively easy if you consider paying for a repiar is around 1200$. Then shop around, and find the best but. It's really not hard, except for getting it out w/o wearing it, and geting it in w/o breaking you or the trans case.

Should be pretty direct. One thing to note are the crossmembers for the tranny mount and the gear shift linkage of the transmissions. Those will most likely be different, but can easily be swapped from the the tranny on the 240 to the tranny on the 740. I agree, you will want to check the models of the transmissions.

Getting the tranny out is fairly simple, and don't worry, you can be a little rough with it. Just don't forget that you have to get the torque converter bolts as well as the bell-housing bolts before you pull each tranny.

          Good luck,

          Brant
