Wee Weeping Willie the water Pump 200 1982

I replaced my water pump at 100K miles in 1997. There is a "weeping" crondition from the seal with the cylinder head that I have had for some time. I tied Bars leaks in 2002 but the condition remains. Actually it is no big problem as the Coolant reservoir tank needs a slight topping up once in a long while to keep level but I want to know of any potential problems & any solution. I know it as about some deterioration of the sealing surface at the opening at the cylinder head where the seal goes.I remember using Permatex as a sealer. The car now has 180K+ miles. I intend to replace the pump at 200K miles. Is there a special seal available that can compensate ?

The best water pump is on sale now at IPD (39.XX) I hope to stop weeping on myself after Saturday afternoon under the shade tree.

Either keep an eye on it or replace the seals. Dan

I have the same problem with my water pump. It seeps occasionally at the pump- head join. The reservoir doesn't completely empty though, it just sits at a low level. I keep a liter bottle of ready-to-use coolant in the car for top-up.

When I get around to it, I'll try thickening up the seal with an additional washer(garden hose?) to see if that works. (Pump is probably levered up as far as possible, though belts may be pulling it down a tad.) Maybe the pump and head metal expand and contract too much?

What about in the meantime ? There is no immediate need to R&R the water pump.

My seal seeps and I'm not quite ready to replace my pump either. My favorite is "Alumaseal" been using it for 30+ years and it won't plug your radiator or heater core.

For seepage try half a tube possibly 1/3 tube.

Don't forget that seal is 10 yrs. old and probably age hardened. I used to use RTV on a new installation but I believe I'm having better success without RTV
