turbo trouble 200 1983

When I acelerate the car coughs and bucks. The turbo light flickers. The car is driveable if I do not fully acelerate. Does this mean the turbo has or is soon to fail? Thanks

I believe the turbo light goes on when the overboost switch is tripped. The overboost switch should also cause fuel to cut out at the same time (hence bucking and coughing). What is your boost gage reading when this happens? First guess would be a leak in the wastegate hose.

That would be my guess as well. Wastegate hose is there to regulate boost, when it breaks the motor can get *lots* of boost, which will blow it up (unless you've done lots and lots of mods). So this is the car attempting to prevent catastrophic overboost.

Those rubber hoses have a very hard life living around a hot turbo.
