new OD relay fixed my problem...or so I thought...... 200

1986 244 - 67k miles - auto trans

A few months back, my overdrive indicator would go on by itself (and I would lose overdrive) spuradically. When it happened, I could not turn it back on by pressing the button on the stifter. It would eventually go off by itself.

A week ago, it happened again, but this time it never went back to normal. So after doing a bit of research, I decided that my OD realy was bad. Got the relay, installed it, and everything was back to normal....until today! Wheil on the highway, the OD indicator light came on again and I lost OD - it would not go back to normal.

Did my brand new relay just go bad?

Is there something that is burning up my relays? (when I removed my old one, I took it apart and discovered that one area of solder was corroded away)

Any other things I should look at?

thanks

OK - checked fuse #11 - it was blown.

Is that wire above the trans a bitch to get at? Do I need to jack the car up?

Hope my new relay isn't toast!

Thanks for your help!

Check the fuse - you may have an intermittent short problem that was flipping the relay, but is now drawing enough current to blow the fuse. I had bare wiring all aver the place on my OD system, I just chopped the solenoid and deleted the cut-out option.

Check the wire that goes over the transmission to the solenoid on the left side, the insulation falls off and it shorts out on the transmission housing. Your new relay may be bad now too!

Good Luck
