My daughter was backing up our s90 and could not shift out of reverse. She turned the car off. Now, it will not shift into park, but can shift in other gears. In neutral, nothing happens with key is turned to the start position and since it will not shift into park, we cannot start the car. Help!!!

    I wonder, if the problem is in the linkage from the gear selector to the transmission. There is a hard rubber doughnut like insulator in the linkage that can dry out and crack, when this happened on my car the car would not shift into park or go into some of the selected gears.

    If it isn't that, then I would look into the electricals of the lock out microswitch, have you tried using the override, my '94 has a button on the console to override having to put your foot on the brake pedal to shift out of park.
