71 142e 140-160

Hello All,
I love my trusty 2-door 71 142e, but the wife and I made a decision to sell it last night. Our move several years ago from the south to the East coast has been too hard on us, and we think it should go.
I have several thousand invested in this car, and would like to hear what others think it might be worth:
71 142e with B20E Original working fuel injection system
4 speed manual with perfectly working overdrive(switch on steering column)
Front bucket seats recovered and beautiful black leather.
New front safety belts 3-point
5 spoke volvo alloy turbo wheels (15" from late 80's 740 turbo)
Front suspension rebuilt last year.
Upgraded to Pertonix electronic ignition
The body: It is white and has surface rust on the top of the trunk and around the windshield, and one small patch on the rocker panel on the passenger side.
This car was professionally rust-proofed in the early 70' in Santa Ana, CA, where it lived most of it's life.
New exhaust 2 years ago from header back.
The paint job was performed in the mid-80's and is now flaking off.
I suppose that I should post some photos. I will take some today and post tomorrow.

I am near Worcester, MA and open to discussion if someone is interested. Brickboarders get first priority.

I don't know much about the pre-240 cars except what I've absorbed from the BB, so I may not be much help. I'm interested in the possibility of acquiring the car more than anything...

I would think that among certain circles there is some cachet in the '71 142e being that (assuming it is as original) it has the high compression, high power, B20E.

Pictures would be very nice. I'm in Mystic, CT and need another car like I need another hole in the head. However I have been angling for a 142 or 122 for some time now and D-jet sounds more interesting than carbs to me.

    Good luck,
    Will

This car would be an ideal project car. Very few of that specific model were imported and many of them have been relegated to racing becuz of the upgraded features. There are not many chances to get one of these anymore. Get it while you can. If it were only closer to where I live.

I see a truly rare '71 142E - an automatic - on eBay as we speak (#200165841048), can't have been many of those made. Sadly, it is not much more than a parts car at this point, but at least appears to be complete.

FYI, SCCA Improved Touring "B" cars account for most of the 142's that have been converted to race cars in the US, but the vast majority of these are not '71 E's. SCCA IT rules allow update/backdate of complete assemblies (engine long block, induction system, etc.) between all year models listed on a classification line. In this case '69 through '74 (all US B20's) are listed together. I would say that in fact, most of the SCCA ITB cars are 72-73 models, and many of the rest are earlier cars that have been made into '71 E "clones". My car for instance, started life as a '71 142S, but has been legally transformed into a '71 E equivalent. What you're ultimately after for an ITB car of course, is the unique-to-1971 B20E 10.5 to 1 compression ratio; regardless of what engine you choose to run, the rules only allow a 0.5 compression ratio bump-up from stock.

Parting is such sweet sorrow......Sounds like a GREAT machine but it will be
very hard to get what we think it is worth out of it unless some vintage racer
    wants it.

I'm building engines again so that I can thin my herd - too many NFs in the
driveway! (Fortunately it is a BIG driveway - I calculated that if I parked
them carefully I could probably get 24 cars into the driveway.)
