Any help with Seat Belt installation points? 444-544

I started to install my seat belts today (the car has never had them before).
The mounting points on the door pillars is apparent and easy. The center mount on the top of the tunnel shows no sign of a mounting point. The lower mounts as well have no apparent mounting spot. Is there a predetermined spot from the factory for these?

Any help with Seat Belt installation points? 444-544

I installed some Andover seat belts in my 57 444. Don't know how safe they are but they're better than nothing. I didn't try to get the mounting points correct, since I didn't think the 444's ever had seatbelts.

Thanks!
Now a correct answer can be given! :-)

Well, first of all - the 444's wheren't prepared for 3 point belts - therefore you'll have no reinforced brackets inside the panel/sil - so no good! - To drill a center-hole for a catch should be fairly easy.

What Volvo sold for these early PV's - where 'two-point' seatbelts (no, NOT lap-belts) - they where mounted on top of the B-pillar and on the 'cross-member' behind the front seats (the crossmember that rear seat rests on).
So originally, the seatbelt option for early PV's where this type.

To mount reliable and true safe seat belts in yours - I suggest you fabricate (or get someone to do it - or find a later 544 to cut it out of) - a lower mounting hole with prober enforcement within the panel/sil.
When mounting the center catch - remember also to reinforce the tunnel.

It's the only way arround it.. Unless you go H-belt or similr rally-style.

Volvo didn't start installing 3 point shoulder searbelts until 1959. The mounting hole for the trans tunnel shouldn't be a problem to drill. It is behind the hand brake. I can give you a dimension later. I'm not so sure about how you are going to drill and mount on the "b" pillar

My '60 had a threaded hole on top of the tunnel.
Also had threaded holes at the base of the door pillars.
You will have to remove the floor mat to find them.

In the back seat, I thought it was odd that there were no outboard holes for belts. Had two for a center lap belt though.

Yes, I've seen this mounting spot on the tunnel of some cars. Mine does not seem to have it, nor the lower mounting spots on the B pillars. It does have the mounting spots for the rear belts, anyone know when they started putting the mounting points in? Anybody able to tell me where along the tunnel to locate the center mount? A measurement along the tunnel from the front or back would be great!

The lower mounting position for the two-point seat belt in a 1958 444 is under the rear seat. There are four bolts which hold part of the rear axle in place (I believe) which are re-used for the seat belts. The upper part of the seat belt mounts to the two bolt holes (on each side) which takes a LARGE phillips screw (two per side.) I am sure you have these in your car. Can you take pictures of the area on the tunnel under the rear seat, as well as your upper pillars?

You could start by submitting your yearmodel or chassis number - we still don't know if you are talking 444 or 544?.. The 444 wheren't prepared for a 3 point seatbelt etc. etc. etc.

It's a bit like just ordering "..new tyres..".... For what car/wheel?? Size?..
