how to remove the A/C switch from an '85 200 1985

My A/C switch will not turn off and I want to pull it out and hit it with some cleaner before I swap it out. What is the best way to pull the switch out of the dash?
thanks

Is the compressor staying engaged, or just the fan? There is an auxiliary micro-switch attached to the side of the thermostat switch. This is what assures that your fan is on low when you turn on the AC. You can bend the actuator tang to adjust this. However I'm sure your knob is tough to turn too, so a good time to address both.

a] remove knob by pulling
b] pull off plate with color band behind knob (small pick or screwdriver)
c] remove shaft nut (14mm socket(?))
d] remove console face

there, now you have the a/c knob & switch to work on.

When you get in there behind the switch you will see what appears to be a fat silver wire from the switch to the expansion valve area. It is a tube filled with Freon. If it is broken, the switch is toast.

Unless you intend to replace the switch with a new one with an intact tube, be quite careful about handling the one you have.

Good Luck,

Bob
