I have the above car with 110K miles.

Within the last 6 months (about 3K miles), the up arrow on the dash comes on for a few minutes.

In all but one occassion, I am driving in the city and I do not run the full range of gears for a few miles; the light always goes off before I wind out the lower gears. On one occassion, I was at a stop light and the arrow came on. Immediately after the light, I got on the highway and the light went off. My point here is that, although the light comes on, there does not appear to be any transmission shifting problems (e.g., can not go into higher gears).

What does the arrow mean? Is this the indicator for the passing gear? I am going to take a 600 miles trip soon and I want to know what is going on.

If the light is on it means you cannot get onto 4th.

The information in this link is good for the 240s except the fuse number and maybe the terminal numbers. Do check the fuse contacts first and the relay second.

I have had the same experience as the initial post. Start car and light is on, or on faintly.
Car drives normally, and it will shift into fourth.
If when the car starts, the light is on, I have found that turning off and restarting, it is usually off.
So the light is coming on without causing the OD to be switched off.

I have been told 2 things: a wiring short or the OD relay.

Honestly, I have not made it a priority, since it is not affecting anything. The car needs bushings in the shift linkage, and that will be the correct time to look into it.

It is an indicator light for the overdrive. Dan

What does it mean when the light comes on the dash, but I have not pressed any button?

If it is going on and off and you are not doing anything the wires to the OD must be shorting out under the car. Do you feel the OD going on and off? If not look at the relay by the left side of the glove compartment. Dan
