''Swaping Engines'' 740T to 740 700

Anybody ever swap a 740turbo into a non turbo? Any major complications?
my body has seen better days but I still have a great 1991 engine 740 turbo wagon only (191k) Someone down the road is selling a very clean 740 wagon with 260k I would have to go over it a little better to see if its worth investigating and persuing further for this major undertaking!

I have been shopping for a later model 850 or even v70
but I do love my short wheel radius over the newer models LOL!

    hello
you will need to swap the engine wiring harness and computer, i think the turbo uses a different ignition computer so take into consideration.
the airbox is in different location also. plus the exaust is different.
i never dont the swap but this is the obvious items.
    consider sticking with the redblocks.
    good luck
    mike

If the "recieving" non-turbo car is a Rex-Regina, It may get a bit involved, as there will be some sort of differences in the wiring harness (intake temp sensor vs AMM; MAP sensor, etc). The exhaust system in the turbo is larger diameter, etc, etc, etc.

However, as long as you understand that it's a sizeable undertaking, then in theory it should be possible.

Biketraxx ... shouldn't be a big deal if you have done engine swaps before. After all, you have the perfect exemplar right before you ... put the two cars side by side ... as you take the parts off the Turbo car ... just take note or digital pics and install it in the recipient exactly where it was in the donor ...

I just rebuilt my 740 turbo engine and they are easy to remove. The wiring does not have to be unpluged from the engine to remove it from the car. There are two big plugs on the passengers side and three on the drivers side. Just unplug those to take care of the wiring. It only takes about four hours to remove it. I would suggest removing the trans with it. It can be difficult to get to some of the bellhousing bolts it's just easier I think. If you don't have an engine leveler you might want to rent one if you plan on taking the trans out with the motor. It will make life easier. Northern tool and Harbor Frieght both sell one.
