need source for front brake 'dust guards' 200 1989

brickers,

i am looking for a source for those metal front brake guards on my 1990 240 dl. mine are disintegrated. I purchased a pair of them for my 1989 some time ago on line but i am having no luck locating a source today.

i am talking about the guards on the back of the brake rotors, not the ones on the front that are supposed to keep dust off your wheels.

thanks,

2oldvolvos

See if a junk yard in Calif, Ariz, or West Texas will mail them to you.

The ones on my California bricks are not rusted at all, so I expect that the junk yards should have good ones.

I know that the Volvo/Saab Recycling yard in Rancho Cordova (outside Sacramento) ships stuff.

need source for front brake 'dust guards' - here's the phone # 200 1989

I've had very good experience with that junkyard (Rancho Cordova, CA), prices are good. Their number is 800-700-VOLV (not too hard to memorize!)

    Try these part numbers:

1272102-3 protector plate (circular ring, about 6" diameter), usd$27 from Tasca, I paid usd$32 each from FCP Groton.

1272469-6 splash shield (slightly larger than the brake rotor), usd$24 from Tasca, I paid usd$28 from FCP Groton.

I made a point of stripping the factory finish immediately, and painting them with two coats of POR-15.

    Hope this helps,

    Michel

I asked this question a couple of years ago, and didn't get an answer. The only source I know of is the dealer and they are expensive. There are actually 2 separate parts: The main backing plate and a smaller ring that I assume is to protect the bearing.

I have driven Saab 900s and Volvo 240s with rusted out front backing plates without any problems. The rest of those cars were rusty enough that I didn't think it was worth putting new plates on. Its a problem on the rear wheels since the emergency brake shoes slide on the backing plate.

    Hello:

I have the same issue with the ones on my 945T-- salty roads make a mess of them. I haven't been able to source any in aftermarket, so your best bet is likely FCPgroton.com or a Volvo dealer who does discount OEM online. At FCP you'll have to write or call-- they aren't listed on their site.

The other option is a junkyard-- here the cars aren't allowed in the yard with wheels on, so it usually means the car is resting on the rotors in the dirt. The backing plates are the first thing to get damaged...

    Good luck!

Can't help with a source, but I think you are refering to "backing plates."
