Power door locks 900 1993

My 93 940 Turbo Wagon has been running great (240K - original everything just about). However, this week, the power locks stopped functioning. The driver's door lock works, but it fails to activate the other 3 door locks. I suspect a relay, or switch. Anyone out there dealt with this before?

What about sedan where central locking works for 4 doors but not the trunk?
I changed trunk lid lock mechanism, but this had no effect.

Dear Melsas,

Hope this finds you well. If central locking works for the doors, but not the trunk lid (or station wagon hatch), I'd examine carefully, the wires that take power to the trunk or hatch lock motor.

As these wires move each time the trunk lid (or hatch) is opened/closed, you should be on guard for a wire, that has broken inside the insulation. The wire will look fine, but current can't jump the tiny gap. Corrosion can also keep current from going where it is needed.

The only way to find such a gap, is to use a Volt-Ohm-Multimeter, to check each wire - one-at-a-time - for continuity. The meter should show "0" resistance, if the wire is in good order. If any other number shows, the wire is broken.

Examine all connectors for corrosion, and - if need be - clean them.

Report back on your findings. Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook

Dear Paltell,

Hope this finds you well. The central locking system relay is found on the main relay block, behind the front center console ashtray. See the FAQs, for access to this area.

This relay is in the front row (closest to the seats), in the middle of the row. It is rectangular, dark brown/black, and about 1" tall. It may be marked with an "L". The part number is 3523739-5. The dealer price will be about $100.

For small money, you should be able to get several at a salvage yard.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
