Missing posts, locking brakes, broken exhaust 120-130

Ok. first. anyone notice their posts vanishing lately? I've had several go MIA, including a whole new thread asking the innocent question about the weirdness with the zombie read-only deleted comments thread about Old Kombi's gas mileage.

Maybe this one will vanish too. If this is a moderator's actions without explanation, it makes me think about whether I should send any more money to the BB... Anyway, if anyone knows what's going on, please let me know.

So... I've been driving my 68 about lately, and seem to have my fuel gauge issue and cruddy fuel tank issue corrected. I can finally start to address some other nagging issues.

#1. Seems that my rear brakes lockup very easily. This leads to me squealing my rear tires in traffic and at stop signs, despite my low-key driving.
I'm not sure if this is due to mal-adjusted shoes (note that I have the self-adjusting rear drum brakes), or (and I strongly suspect that) my rear brake limiter may have seized. I have a working spare limiter - polished, sealed, and sitting on a shelf for only a couple months. If that's the issue, I can just swap it out, but I'd like a second opinion on the problem before I have to re-bleed my entire brake system.

Also, while under the rear looking at the limiter, I noticed that in the two weeks since I inspected and licensed the car, my rear exhaust pipe has broken. The long pipe from the manifold back to the muffler is fine, but the connection between the muffler and pipe is broken. It figures that I have a complete spare down pipe and long bit, but no spare muffler, loop, rear muffler can, nor tailpipe.

I've looked about and found a lot of high end stuff at Skandix and IPD, but I'm really not sure what I'd be getting from IPD, or which kit I really need for just the rear part of the stock exhaust.

An alternative is the 2" custom exhaust the JohnMC made for his 71 1800E. I saved it when I chopped up that car, but I'm not sure it would size-up correctly for a 122 Sedan. I was actually saving it for my 1967 122 ES Wagon with B20E and D-jet... But if it's fit right into a sedan, maybe I should use it with my B18B... Any thought or recommendations on exhaust parts??

Missing posts, locking brakes, broken exhaust 120-130

Since I live across the bridge from it I just drive over and get stock exhaust stuff from RPR volvo. Good prices and they have the stuff in stock.

Missing posts, locking brakes, broken exhaust 120-130

I also have a problem with the rear brakes locking up prematurely on my 65 wagon. This car has no proportioning valve; never did from the factory.

T he rear axle and brakes (Wagner?) actually came from my 64 wagon that I parted out, which had drums in the front. The rear brakes would lock prematurely on that car too, so the problem seems to have followed the brakes.

I never observed this problem when the 65 wagon had Girling rear brakes. It does have 195/75 tires in the back, and 165/? in the front (smaller diameter) so I've been wondering if that could be the problem.

I'm going to put new tires on the car soon, and they will all be the same diameter, so I will be curious as to what effect this has on my problem. If that doesn't fix it, then I suppose I will put Girling rear brakes back on the car. I assume they will fit the rear axle of a 64 wagon...

I know I should pay attention to the bore of the Girling wheel cylinders too if I do this, since there seems to be several sizes I could use.

        Proportioning Valves 120-130

My 67 had a single rear proportioning valve, while my 71 1800E had dual valves for the split rear circuits. Neither car ever had a rear brake screech. and both sets of wheels are in use (that is the original 67 wheels went onto the 68 sedan, and the 71 wheels went onto the 67 wagon. I transfered the wheels and complete brake systems to the 67 wagon along with the two proportioning valves and dual-circuit booster brakes. Had I known I would be finding and buying the 68, I would have used the 1800 parts to upgrade the sedan - as everything is a direct fit...

Anyway, I wire-brushed and sealed the openings of my original 67 single-circuit valve and parked it on a spare parts shelf. It has gone around 5 months without use. The 68's valve sat on the car in a barn for 22 years, so I think it;s reasonable that it has seized. I figure swapping it into the 68 would prove to be worth my effort, but I was not sure that my problem was the valve as opposed to a mis-adjustment. Since the car's out waiting for a new rear exhaust system, I might as well replace the part...
