Need AC advice/ does turning on AC raise RPM? 700 1991

I've got the AC working. I had the problem like so many others of the air diverting to the floor upon acceleration. I plugged up the yellow and blue hoses that go to the center motor.

I had the AC system reworked with a variable orifice valve and the system works well.

What I want to know is does turning on the AC supposed to raise the RPM? Because it does not on my car. Currently my idle is at 500, I know it's a little low. I plan to clean the throttle body this week. But I am not noticing an automatic RPM increase when I turn on the AC.

CAn anyone offer clarification on this?

Thanks, Josh

You're base idle should be around 750. When the AC is turned on the idle should increase to 1000 RPM. Good luck!

      Hey there,

Yes it's a automatic and it has stalled. It idles around 550, so I guess along with a throttle body cleaning perhaps a cleaning of the little unit below the intake mani would be a good idea.
      No?

Yes, the IAC valve should open more to compensate for the A/C. Mine sounds like a droning hum when I turn the A/C on. Its not the best example because its slow to respond, but you can tell it changes position.

If your IAC valve isn't working, mine had a connector that was loose. I pinched the contacts so it would connect better to the IAC valve to fix.

One way to test the valve is to ohm it out. You should get ~4 ohms if its good. Of course, that just means it will work. The test does not account for sluggish IAC valves. It just tests the electrical connections within it.
