No o/d...........91 245 145k 200 1991

Arrow goes on and off and relay clicks, doesn't this usually mean the o/d circuit is good? Swapped out the solenoid yesterday and still no o/d. Any further suggestions appreciated.... TIA Tom 27940aholic

2 more thoughts come to mind:

is your trans fluid level correct? stupid i know it seems obvious but too low a level means not enough pressure.

also

is you kick down cable working properly?
that is the other cable below your accelerator cable on the intake manifold.
does the cable move in and out easily when you manipulate it with your fingers.

overdrive relay
switch on the shifter
overdrive solenoid
and wiring connecting all of the above

IF all of these are sound then u have a clog inside the transmission preventing fluid from passing. overdrive activates as do all the workings of the transmission from hydraulic pressure changes. no pressure or reduced pressure ......no gear changes. (check the FAQ 740 Q & A for the specific area and pictures in the transmission known to cause this)

when was the last time u fuly flushed your transmission?
what color is the fluid?
have you removed the trans pan (not usually necessary or especially useful) to see if you have real crud in the bottom?

ps: be VERY careful if u remove the pan. the tube that holds the dipstick that bolts into the pan will almost always shatter and break when u try and remove it. IF u elect to remove the pan for a look see disconnect the fasteners (involves loosening the starter) that hold the dipstick in place and remove IT with the pan as one piece. i know of what i speak having broken one and scrambling to locate a fresh pan....not easy to find separate from the transmission at a reasonable cost.

Nevermind..........91 245 145k 200 1991

I changed the relay today and the solenoid now clicks as I bend down next to the car and press the button, should be fine now. Was almost as difficult to get the glovebox door off as changeing the solenoid. Later 240's added 2 screws at the hinge location, older boxes just had screws on the face of the box itself. What a PITA getting those screws out...... Thankx, Tom 27940aholic
