Fuel Tank sendining unit kaput? 900

I couldn't find my original message. But I wanted to thank those that replied that the diagnosis of a bad sending unit was correct. It took me a while to gather all the parts and get the job done. Does anyone know if the gauge has a calibration adjustment? It drops much quicker than before to the 1/2 mark. It may be something I have to put up with. Thanks again.

How was getting those old hose clamps off? At the factory the orientation was a little different then working thru the access door. Then getting that rubber seal to stay in position while getting the unit back in place.

I don't think there is any adjustment or calibration possible. When I did a repair to my sender the same thing happened to me, the fuel gauge now drops consistently to empty. Before the repair, the gauge seem to drop fast from full and the as it approached 1/4 full seemed to drive forever before the fuel light illuminated.

I did run out of fuel once since then, the old way the low fuel light gave me almost 100 miles of driving now with the repair, it more like 25 miles now.

Remember reading that there may be a incompatibility with certain fuel blends on the windings affecting the resistance that messes up the gauge's reading.
Mine on removal had a little sludge build up on the float itself.

It wasn't that bad for the clamp removal, the difficult part was getting into a position I could work on it inside the trunk. I cam at a loss to explain the rapid decrese in gauge readings sine the new parts are all Volvo. I recall the 700's having a calibration procedure after replacement of the sending unit there must be something I'm missing on this one. Thanks for the reply.
