Antifreeze OK for my 960 ? 900

I know it's recommended to use only certain anti-freezes for the 6-cylinder aluminum motor in the '95 960.

I came across a gallon of OEM VW anti-freeze, from my former '99 Passat Turbo wagon. It says "aluminum engine compatible", and is ethylene glycol. However, the VW anti-freeze is red, and my OEM Volvo anti-freeze, which is supposed to be specifically for the aluminum 6-banger, is blue.

Is this red VW coolant OK to use in my '95 960 ?

If it's low in silicates and is aluminum safe then you should be fine. All the new Volvo antifreeze has been green (at least for the last several years).

When these engines first came out there weren't many makers of aluminum safe AF. Now they almost all are. Silicates was the big issue as I recall.
