Firstly, UNPLUG THE SWITCH RIGHT AWAY!!!

Ok.. sorry to yell.

There are 4 bolts that hold the motor to it's assembly. One or more of those bolts can come loose, and lodge in the mechanism, freezing it up. If the wipers aren't in their park position, that motor will try to auto park the wipers whenever the ignition is on...

That's exactly what happened to me a couple years ago.. Motor kept trying, started smoking. Was way too hot to touch.. in fact, I burned myself when I did.

All that said, I pulled the assembly out figuring I'd fried the motor, but.. upon bench testing, found it to be fine. Still lots of torque... so I bolted it all together and it's been fine since.

Could be that your motor is fried, but not necessarily...

Floyd;

A smell like that likely means its toast, literally...remove wiper assembly (heater controls first), then motor from assembly, open and verify unfixable, then work on locating a replacement...reassembly is straightforward and as they say "reverse of dissaembly" ...grease gearboxes and cowl bushings before reassembly...

Cheers

Hello,

A good used wiper motor or assembly should be easy to find.

Someone just started a thread about parting out a couple of 122 recently.

So you should contact them to see if there is a good wiper motor or assembly.

If not, I have several good used ones and even a new motor for the later style of wiper assembly that will fit in your 122.

I was the one working on stripping out several 122 in the next week. I have good working motors if you want one... I'm thinking $30 for one shipping to the bay area....

Contact me off list...
