i've seen two "types", or colors, of new valve stem seals.

green.

brown.

any difference between the colors?

I have seen and used the two colours. I'm not aware of any difference in them. However some early seals may not have the small coil spring that contracts the lip, and very early BMW ones lacked the gun-metal blue band clamp that forces the seal onto the top of the guide. If the seals have both the spring and band clamp, they'll be fine. I haven't seen any without them in years. Just be sure to use the installing sleeve and lots of oil or grease.

I used the brown ones with spiral springs and band clips, no issues whatsoever. The local indie shop claims they are OEM.

If you need a set, let me know, I've got a few spare sets!

green valve stem/caps are for tyres filled with nitrogen or whatever gas other than air.
