Dumping coolant from behind exhaust manifold? 900 1994

Stopped to pick up some oil on the way home and came back to find my 945T pouring coolant all over the parking lot. It seems to be coming from somewhere under the exhaust manifold area and was running down from the edge of the oil filter. I just replaced the heater pipe from the head to the control valve last week as it had cracked so there might be a connection but this is on the opposite side of the block.

My wife's out of town so I let it cool for a while, filled up the reservoir and (perhaps foolishly) drove home watching the temp gauge...it didn't over heat and doesn't seem to have lost much anti-freeze if any... Any ideas where to start looking tomorrow would be much appreciated.

Thanks

JB945T was right. Big crack in one of the oil cooler hoses. Thanks for all the replies, this board is great.

JB945t may have nailed it. Massive flow, cannot find the leak, turbo cooler hoses. These hoses are subject to higher heat and dripping oil. OEM hoses are the better choice.

ANSWER Dumping coolant from behind exhaust manifold? 900 1994

There are two hoses just below the oil filter that circulate coolant through the oil cooler that is incorporated into the oil filter mount. They are a common failure since they are exposed to alot of oil and dirt, they will soften and fail.
In my case it was similar to what you've described, a puddle under the car after it was parked following a drive. Thats actually a good thing because the other failure mode is a burst hose while driving, sudden loss of coolant and overheating that leads to BIG problems. Take a look under the car and inspect those hoses, if they need to be replaced I know they are available at the dealer( I paid @ $40 for the pair) FCPGroton carries them for a much better price if you can wait to have them shipped.
I do have the OEM set on my car now, but ordered a set to add to my emergency parts stash because you dont want to drive the car if those hoses are comprimised at all.

Most of the credit goes to HerbGoltz, when the same problem had me scratching my head several months ago he helped me out, isn't it great how this board works!

That makes sense. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Thanks

I had one of these oil cooler lines fail catastrophically while on the road -- so needed a replacement imemdiately. I looked at them and realized they're just two hoses with 90-degree bends in them. So I removed them, walked into a parts store, and the guy behind the counter helped me find the same size hose from a different car that had two 90-degree bends in it. I cut them to fit, installed them and was on my merry way. I still have a length of the hose for other uses because it had 4 or 5 bends.

Good luck.

The only way to get coolant dripping on the oil filter would be one of the WP gaskets and most likely the pipe gasket. The fan could be blowing any good leak towards the back. I have found small leaks using a paper towel knotted or taped to potential sources. A gusher should not be hard to find. Another source, but lets say unlikely, would be the head gasket.
