1994 940 Motor Mount Question 900

The drivers side side motor mount on my 940 is broken. I am trying to figure out what I need to replace to repair it. The parts countersa at our local Volvo dealerships don't have a clue. They tell me that there are four parts, a pad, the mount, a bracket and a plate. What do I actually need? It seems like I should be able to re-use the bracket and plate and only require a mount? FC Groton has a part that looks like my mount (a squashed grenade) but offers hydraulic and solid. They don't make any mention of a "pad" or the bnrackets etc.
What do I really need? It's a non-turbo.

The part you need is called an "engine pad" in Volvo speak.
I recommend you replace the other one too, in the near future.

The Volvo # for the Hydraulic mount is 1378657-9 (the -9 is important in Volvo PN searches)
• FCP OE price is $45.00 + shipping
• Tasca Volvo is $40.51 + shipping, See http://www.getvolvoparts.com/ .

1994 940 Motor Mount Question 900

Buy BOTH hydraulic motor mounts from eeuroparts.com, like $38 each, and replace both, kind of difficult but it can be done in 2 hours.
I used a big rubber round spring coil support from a truck I happened to find at the local junk yard and put it around the oil drain plug (to protect the oil pan and drain plug), then a piece of 2by4 and a jack to lift the motor.

I had removed the screws on top of each mount and the 3 screws that hold each mount plate to the car lower frame.
I used a second jack with a piece of flat rubber to move the motor and lift specific areas once it’s lifted by the main jack under the oil drain plug.

You pull each mount out (not very difficult) and remove the actual mount from the base plate (one screw), put it back in place and hold the screws in place with the nuts (not tight yet)
It’s better to work from under the car sometimes.
Once everything is in place lower the motor slowly and confirm everything is ok, and tighten all the nuts.

It really requires some tools and expertise, job not really for a first time home mechanic.

1994 940 Motor Mount Question 900

Your car has the hydraulic turnip style mount, available from FCPGroton and others. If the bracket is truly broken (highly unusual) then the dealer can order one of those. You need to review FAQ instructions on how to do this.

Thanks for all of the information. Very helpfull and exactly what I needed. A turnip. Figures.
This is not my first clambake so I'll give it a shot. Can't be any worse than working on my old VW's.

Mike
