New Addition! Need help already..lol 900

Well we added a 91' 940se to the "collection"!

I wanna thank Javalion for his help in an earlier post!!!!

It's a red block turbo with 240,000+ but it seems to
be running fine and the turbo working as it should.

:o)

The only problem I can see is that the drivers side front
turn signal is not working. It flashes fast on the dash
like the bulb is out. I switched out the bulb with the
passenger side bulb that does work and still no flash!!!
the rear drivers side does flash; but it is faster like the
bulb is out. The running light does however light.

Any ideas on why this would happen????

Is it in the wiring somewhere???

As always, any help is definitely appreciated!

Other than this the car is great.

peace,

karl

I cannot agree with javalion, when two or more items share a ground, just because one item works, you cannot assume that the other will. For instance, the ground that will light an interior light will NOT run your starter.

What can happen with bad grounds is that the bulb IS working, but it is not bright enough for you to see! Or the item completes a circuit through another item, this is what causes some of the strange symptoms you see with a bad ground.

I also have little faith in just taking voltage readings. You need CURRENT to do work.

When the right side headlight did not work on our '88 745 GLE, I tried a new bulb - no good. Then I measured the socket and got 12 volts like I should. I suspected the plug and soldered in a new one - no good, I still had my 12 volts. I measured the current, there was some there, but only milliamps.

I stripped the wires back, and about 2 feet from the headlight, there was only one strand left, among a bunch of black gunk.

I had to go to the junk yard and replace the wires all the way to the firewall to get the headlight to work.

With our '90 744 TI, the car would stall when I put on the high beams. It's in the FAQ! Bad ground in the left front fender. Enough ground for the ignition system, but the high beams stole it away and the car stalled.

BTW, one quick way to check a ground (or to repair one in some cases) is to add a temporary one, like a clip lead, or even a jumper cable.

NOooooo, now you have a punching bag when something goes wrong. Hey, thought I tried to convince you not to buy it?

Not sure what’s wrong. A few, ideas. I do not have a wiring diagram for the 1991 so I am looking at a 1993 WD. I think you can rule out the bulb out relay as not part of the circuit. If the rear turn signal is working the front one should too. It could be a bad ground. Check for voltage, voltage, pin to pin. Check for voltage from the hot pin to a known good ground. In the 1993 WD green is hot and black is ground and the ground tab should be on the inside of the fender next to the battery.

No worries!

My son is actually the recipient(sp) of the car
and he paid for it so he will blame me for
this I am sure....lol.

He is actually pretty stoked!
I had him driving the 77' 244.....LOL.

It was $1300 inspected (too much???) and it is actually
in very nice shape. One owner, and I think it
was really just highway miles.....for real...lol.

I will indeed check for a ground tomorrow and that
sounds like a pretty logical thing now that I think
about it!

If not, I will figure it out eventually but that
may very well be the fix.

There is a green wire, and a black wire, and a third wire
that I can't remember the color of.

thanks for the suggestion, I will let you know how
it turns out tomorrow. :o)

peace,

karl

So I am off the hook, great!

My son, while in HS, had in a rust bucket 1978 245 with an M46 in school bus yellow and brown. He went from that to a Ford Ranger and just got a 944.

If I am reading this WD correctly the parking lights and turn signal lights are both single filament lights. The parking light has a green hot wire and share the same ground connection. This blows the ground theory but again, this is a 1993 WD and we have rebadged 760s from prior years.
