hooking up a/c gauges 200

Gentlemen,

feel like this is a stooopid question but rather than make a mess or create drama i prefer to defer to those more knowledgable.

while i have good experience working on, & bring back, defunct a/c systems, i've never tried to hook up gauges to a "charged" system.

in order to check my pressures & test my new, to me, gauges, i started with the high side hose.

as i got the connector on, & in the process of tightening it down, $hit started coming out the back of the compressor.

normal? am i supposed to wear gloves?

can someone please explain how to hook up a set of gauges to a charged system, what to expect when i do so, and how to check the high & low pressures?

i understand a/c systems, the numbers i'm looking for, which port is which, and all that. just a little clarification.

THANKS.

Always make the connections with the engine off. If it has just been running, wait a few minutes to allow the high side pressure to bleed down. With the pressure lower, you will loose less refrigerant when connecting or disconnecting the hose. There may be a high side connection near the receiver/drier thats a little easer to get to than the one behind the compressor. Always wear safety glasses when working on the AC. Foresight is better than no sight. Gloves are good too, just don't wear them around spinning parts.

    hello
do you have the quick connect type setup? if so make sure the open/close knob on the quick connect will not push in the schrader valve until have hooked up the quick connect.you should only lose just a little bit if any.
dont know about gloves, but if you breathe it in you can die, probably not good for the skin.
    good luck
    mike
