In-tank fuel line hose upgrade 200

Thanks yet again to postings with suggestions and advice from Mr. Lucid and Mr. Benstein, I'm on the trail of another improvement/upgrade for my old 240 wagon. I'm looking for some submersible fuel line to replace the short length of hose in the tank between the in-tank pump and the exit pipe. Mr. Lucid has suggested in an earlier posting the submersible Gates hose #27093, designed to resist invasive gasoline decrepitude. It's about 22 bucks for the foot-length item. I might be able to find it locally, but I might need only three or four inches myself. Would anyone like to share the rest?

Thanks again for all the good advice!

    Hi there,

"Mr. Benstein" would be interested in sharing the cost with you.

I replaced a decrepitudinous hunk of something with a piece of vinyl hose, recalling small engine repairs where vinyl was original equipment so to speak, for fuel line. Figuring it is solid, I couldn't see how submersed in fuel would be any different than carrying fuel. Since doing that, I see a lot of catalog descriptions indicating vinyl hose may come in variants not so resistant to the decrepitating components of automotive fuel.

There was this choice of sorts, doing this on an 83. The molded piece that fits so well in 84-93 240s doesn't apply to the earlier transfer pumps. The R7 hose I had, I knew wasn't made for immersion, so that left me with vinyl.

Anyway, I want to pull the pump, which seems to be working just peachy, and eventually take a look at the vinyl thus immersed, and have a piece of that R10 hose ready to replace in there. So, I could use an inch or two of that 'spensive stuff. You find it; I'll share your cost.

      Mr. Benstein,

As soon as the hose comes my direction--that part as yet still trailing the source--I would be happy to send some in your direction.

The R/C model airplane crowd uses a yellow tinted vinyl tubing for gas engine applications but I don't know how it would work submersed in gasoline for years on end. Dan

        Hi Dan,

That yellow tinted vinyl was exactly what I was finding in the catalogs described for use with fuel. Of course I always figured the fuel had stained it that way.

A year or so ago when a friend put me on to that Gates hose, I googled around and found it someplace in 6" lengths and at a better price.

I think I was googling on submersible fuel hose and got a lot of hits on other car forums, and finally one thread that mentioned a source. But sadly, I didn't make a note of it.
I'll try later when I have more time.

That sounds like the same stuff I used, im not sure of the part number but I got it from napa and it was 23 bucks a foot. I almost crapped when I heard that because you only need about an inch and you have to buy the foot, at least I did.
