144 VS 244 Door Swap 140-160

Are doors from a '75 245 an exact swap into a '71 145?? Any things to look out for, such as catches, hinges, different rubber etc.??
Thank You! :-)

You need to talk to Rallyvolvo on this one. He has done two such conversions. One is a 72 144, the other a 71 142E. On the 71 he modified the doors (from a 75 242) to take the original for 71 protruding door handles. I seem to recall that there are minor differences in the door latches or striker plates, but that they weren't too hard to solve. It may be that early 240 (up to 79?, up to 85? ) doors are a direct bolt on, and that later ones are not---I can't remember for sure.

Yes, it all bolts up; but I say it's a downgrade.

    Pros to 244/5 swap:
better, beefier hinges. Parts are in the Junkyard.

    Cons:
    Welded door frames break
release handle plastic, more troublesome, etc.
    less aesthetically pleasing.

The '71s have some really nice hardware when you compare them, though minivents are a real pain to some people.

The later model door frames have already been removed in order to forge them to match the new roof lines. handles have been shaved. I opted for later doors in order to gain aesthetic appeal of the non-existent wing windows, install later oem electrics, and gain the safety features of the added iron found in the later doors. I was primarily inquiring because the builder indicated that the latches of the doors I provided weren't quite right, though I was sure that they were a direct bolt up - will be checking it out next week. Thank you for your input. :-)

Oh, well if that's the route you're going!

hard to tell what your plans were. Yes, that can come out pretty sharp looking, as a freind did to his '72 142... not quite my style though. New roofline contour? did you carve off the drip rail? That gets a little sketchy, as it is structural, it's where body seams are joined. People do it though... another buddy making a "143" shaved them off and later regretted it. I'm not sure where he's decided to make up for the reinforecement.

Another "pro" to 245 doors, as you mention: reinforcing bars.

by latch do you mean door striker? They should be the same, I thought. If not, I doubt the bolt holes changed in the body. You could probably install the whole 240 catch and striker system.

        enjoy

I don't have personal experience with this but if both doors are still on the
cars, get out your tape measure and do some measuring, also examine the details
closely. I'd say the chances are very good.
