universal O2 sensors any good? 700

Hello guys,

Any advice on the O2 sensor situation out there?

Do the 'universal' (cheap) kind perform as well as the 'direct-fit' (at least twice as expensive) ones?

Are the Bosch universals better than the regular/national/parts dealer brands?

Caution - If you have a Regina fuel system on that 740, the cheap universal sensors won't work. You would have to use the titania type of sensor.

Since you have the Bosch system, do as McDuck said. Except try sourcing a Bosch sensor for a V8 Mustang. I believe it will be under $40 -- the sensor for the Escort will likely be a little more than that -- maybe $50+.

I've been running Bosch/Mustang sensors on both my '93 945T, and my '92 Mercedes 190E for 3 years, and they work flawlessly. I get higher than advertised milage out of both cars.

Actually, the Bosch sensor for a '90 Escort is cheaper than the universal, and works just fine with some splices.

No problems so far using the Bosch universal 3 wire O2 sensor. The only difference seems to be that you have to reuse the connector.
