965 at 164K, no new plugs since 125K, which are the best to use? S90-V90 1997

I see that Owner's Manual sex Bosch FR 6 DC or (equivalent).

But before traipsing off the AutoZone (closest to house) I'd like to hear if there are any better choices?

Also, the PO's records show that his dealer found at least one cracked coil pack, and the PO declined the repair. So maybe I should have on hand somoe of them? All six? Seems to me that the labor for replacing them is mostly the same as new plugs.

Thanks to all who respond.

Bob

965 at 164K, no new plugs since 125K, here's what I got....and another question... S90-V90 1997

Went by my favorite parts house today TAP-VPI here in Houston, to get at least one coil pack to install while changing the plugs.

John, VPI owner, drives a V90, his able assistant Scott drives a 1997 964. Both use the Volvo plugs. I bought a set, 6 on a card. Volvo card marked and in three boxes at the top are: Pic of 965 front, then 960, S/v90 S80. Box #2, pic of hourglass, the 91-->. Box #3 pic of a B6304 engine, 6-cyl, exl. turbo, B280E/F

Plugs: Volvo p/n 8642661 (may be fr/n for the 6-pak card.) Written on the 3-prong plug in the ring of steel - MADE IN FRANCE b10X9146775 On the ceramic is only the word VOLVO in the logo font. $18.67 before tax.

Coil Pack: Volvo p/n 1275971. In Volvo box, Made in Spain. $58.93 before tax.

What prices for these items have you found at your sources?

So next in The Job.

Not having the book on this job, are there any tips on it, like if there is oil in the "well", how to get it out?

AND - any important torque values? There is only one mounting bolt hole. Torque on that bolt? Are there 0-rings? Anything to use as sealant?

Thanks to all you folks, makes my non-240 jitters (new car, new engine, interference, and the critical wifemobile) fade away.

965 at 164K, no new plugs since 125K, which are the best to use? S90-V90 1997

Hi,When i purchased my 960 some three years ago I went online to the brickboard and looked up on what plugs to use. I found then that most people preferred the NGK Copper Core so thats what i settled for as i had used them in my other cars with no trouble. They are cheaper than these platinum ones. So it suits me as i don`t belive in leaving a plug in the cylinder head for 30,000 miles for it to corrode despite copper grease or whatever. So I change them every 12,000 miles Regards

Hello Bob,
I put in the Bosch Platinum one prong plugs. Seems to work great.

Best Regards,
Stan

I've used OEM "Volvo" 3 prongers and NGK U groove (single electrode) and both have worked just fine. Poolman is using the E3 plugs and seems to be having good luck with them. The Bosch plugs should be fine. Avoid the Bosch Platinum 4 prongers. Serveral 'BrickBoarders' have had bad luck with them.

I use OEM Volvo plugs in mine. I have run across several posts where aftermarket plugs have been used and the owners were not happy with the performance. There have some that also been happy with the aftermarket plugs.

Since the Owner's Manual suggests the Bosch plugs, I would expect that they are the OEM plugs.

Bob
