- Volvo in Norway are very up to date on their website - here you'll find Volvo official approvements and recommandations - all there free to print!
Oh, yeah - it's in Norwegian - but page 10 is for the Amazon (120's etc.) and last code:
Kode YV1 B4 - Tilhengervekt:
Alle modeller av Volvo Amazon er godkjent for å trekke tillhenger med totalvekt 1000 kg når tilhengeren har brems.
For those NOT attending Norweigian classes:
"Code YV1 B4 - Towing capacity:
All Volvo Amazon models (120/130/122/220/123) are approved for towing trailers up to 1,000 kilograms, if trailer is fitted with brakes."
(I would just love to see one of you Americans going to your nearest Volvo dealer and ask for a copy of YV1 B4 - and insisting on getting it).
The english page is a little misguiding: In European Union, the standards TÜV and such are the standards used in official vehicle inspection - here in EU the TRAILER's max. weight is allowed up to 750 kilograms without (mechanical)brakes - exeding, it must have brakes (mechanical).
So, an Amazon COULD tow a trailer approved to 750 kilograms total, without brakes, BUT - it's NOT allowed to actually WEIGH that much - Actual max. weight is determined by the specifications on the towing vehicle. And so forth!
Anyway - The Amazon's in EU are useally inspected and approved to tow:
- max. 600 kilogram trailers, WITHOUT brakes
- max. 1,000 kilogram trailers, WITH brakes
As for the US/American laws - I don't know, but I guess you can't get higher weights approved than manufactor specifies?
How does registration papers look like in US for Amazon's?
- In EU the reg.paper also state towing weights.
