I'm recent to St. Louis and am looking for recommendations for a good mechanic/shop to service my '88 740 GLE. Most pressing is a need for A.C. work, likely the compressor.

I can help you on this one, from personal experience. All are good.

Seerha Automotive, about two or three blocks west of Skinker. Like 5800 block. Mr. Seehra is a genius and knows everything about volvos. He stands behind his work, for example, I had him replace my catalytic converter. He put in an aftermarket unit with a 12 month warranty. The cat failed at around 11 months. He stood behind the unit and replaced it at no charge, even though the vendor backed out. Only thing that bugs me is that sometimes he doesn't finish my car when he thinks he will. Good prices. Like I say, this guy is really a genius. I love him. Highly recommended.

Miller Brothers. On Midland, halfway between Delmar and Olive. I haven't had a lot of work done by these guys because they tend to be expensive, but I think they know their stuff. I think their estimates are very thoroughly researched and are based on worst case scenarios, so they're higher than the others.

RPM motors, 8209 manchester. Good place. Experienced mechanics. I think prices are lower than Miller bros. highly recommended.
