I have the opportunity to buy genuine Volvo wheels at a low price off an S80 or something. It has 225/70/R16 tyres on, which I think is a bit too large for my 144. I know tyres have been discussed so many times, but I have had so little success with the Brickboard search engine that I don't bother searching for answers anymore. So if someone would be so kind to answer, please.
The local requirements are no scrubbing against the body and the tyre may not extend beyond the fenders. The rims look nice and would really suit my 144, it would be great to know if they would fit fine or can be made to fit. Issues with the speedo and odometer are of no concern, I will sort those out.
Thanks,
Niel

I have 205/55 R15 on Volvo Turbo wheels from the late 80's/early 90's 740 series on my trusty 71 142E. They are perfect.

I recently test fit a set of 8"X18" Volvo wheels w/ 225X18 tires on my 145. Car is lowered (more than usual), rolled fenders and I use 1 inch spacers - NO RUBBING! I used to have a set of 17" Volans on the same car - 7.5" X 17" wheels w/ 215" X 17" tires - no rubbing. Spacers are the key!

I just closed the account and deleted the posts. All 94 of them! What a loser. I should be able to get rid of them easily.
Thank you for the heads up. It is people like you that will help keep this site clear of these criminals.

I don't know, but at the end of each post (when you open it up) there is a small round symbol which you use to report spam. I simply opened the user's profile, listed all the user's posts, and then taggen a number of them as spam. I do not know if there is a trigger level at which the user is suspended until further investigation, but at least that will draw someone's attention.
The other thing one can do is take the e-mail address that is inside the post and sign up to a few adult web sites. That is guarenteed to fill their mailbox with viruses, and also has a good chance of them changing e-mail address which means that people that actually reply to their spam will not get through.
As you can see, I take an active aproach to spammers. I was getting spam from a local company and the unsubscribe "feature" did not work (as well as lots of e-mails), so I've tracked down their website host and made a complaint, a week later their site was closed.

If they're from an S80, they're probably 49mm offset. With a wide tire you will have rubbing on the swaybar at full lock, no big deal.
For sizes, you'll probably want to stick with a 205/55-16 or so. That's what I had on my 142, worked fine and dandy with FWD offset wheels.(850 though, which start at 43mm offset normally)
225/50-16 may work, but I wouldn't be too suprised if it rubs a bit. It may not though. If your car is lowered, beware of the inside of the tires up front hitting your inner fender well over large bumps.

Other than old springs, nope. It did have the smaller early fenders though, for what it's worth.

I thought the bolt circle was differant on the FWD Volvo's? You might want to check. I have 225/50/R15's on my race car, and yes, that wide a tire is a bit hard to turn at anything less than racing speed with a non PW/Str. 140... but I think you'll need a lower profile to fit inside the fenders regardless.

I do not know what it came off, first wanted to find out if the size would fit. But it is definately off a recent model Volvo and is OEM and is 5 bolt. It's about US$130 for the set with Winter tyres. Winter tyres are of no use for me, because where I am it does not get that cold (nor hot). But anything would look better than the 165x15 I've got on my 144 at the moment.

225-70-16
Wow! I am getting 28.4 inch diameter on that wheel.
Stock 165-80-15 diameter is 25.4 ".
+12% gearing for starters.
3 inches taller might rub in the top of the wheel well,
and that width might hit the tip of the front fender.
Sketchy,at best.
140 offset is 40mm so the front wheel drive wheels
work pretty well.
I would want to know the offset
and rim width on the new wheels.
Sounds like new tires are in order in any case.

before i went with 205/60/15's on my virgos i had 215/60/14's on 240 steelies, bear in mind my 142 has lowering spings. the 215's came right to the edge of the fenders on the fronts and almost to the edge of the rear, thats what it looked like at least. they were a nice width while driving but hell to turn from a stop, i'd bet a 205 or 215/55/16 would look real good and drive great and not change the spedo much.
i would not want to paralel park a with a set of 225's unless i had power steering, i had 225/60/15's on my 2 old 240's and they were great. both had power steering though, good luck on the decision

If they are 225/70's I'd say they're from an XC90. The rims will work. The tires won't...
