1992 244 Cracked Weld from cat to down pipe 200

This is a new 1992 244 that joined my 940 collection but not on the road yet.

This is a crack in a creative adapter pipe and weld from the Y pipe to the cat. Original cat with 190k miles and welded pipe in most of the exhaust system I will have to replace the Y pipe back. A weld on 4 year old back muffler may be salvageable but hardly worth sawing up and using adapters.

Question about the manifold to the down pipe connection, are there studs in the manifold connection or is it a nuts and bolts connection? I can easily handle 3/8, 7/16 or metric nuts and bolts but if there are studs in the manifold end, it could be an issue with breakage or rusted away threads.

There are three studs in the manifold, with 15mm nuts underneath. Lots and repeated PB'laster applications is your friend. If you have a torch, or know someone with a torch, all the better.

Lots of people successfully break the nuts free with some penetrant and a socket or impact wrench, but I broke one of the studs on my '90 245's manifold last January. At that point it's cheaper (and easier) to source a replacement manifold. No fun.
