the dreaded SRS light came on - and stayed on 700

i have read the FAQ and was wondering what to do about this since my car is a 1991 745 and the FAQ seems to deal with 1992+ cars. are they similar and what is the reset procedure?

why would this just pop on anyhow? is it simply timed to do so?

thanks very much, this issue is making my wife nervous...

Before getting too worked up on it, reset the whole thing by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes (have the radio code handy). See if the SRS light comes back on. That did the trick with my '90.

hmmm. it's funny you say that about the battery disconnect, because i had to recently jump the car's battery with another car as the parking lights had been left on for two days. maybe disconnecting again...?

It's worth a try...

The SRS light came on in my old '90 745 after the car had gotten shaken up a little back in 1998 (got hit twice in three weeks, and two of those weeks it was at the body shop). I was seeing dollar signs, but reseting the SRS system did the trick. Never had another problem. Sold the car in 2005.

Good luck,

One of the things that sets a code with the SRS is low voltage-- I have seen this being the problem several times. I'd take some measurements at the battery terminals with the car running-- you should see between 13.7-14.2V. Less than that and you have charging problems, which are usually resolved by replacing the voltage regulator/brush pack.

You should still read the codes and find out what they are-- corrosion in the SRS connections is also fairly common...

Good luck!

Look at the FAQ's again and go with the pre 93 instructions. No, the light does not just come on for fun, there is a code stored in the control unit. Pull the code and figure it out.
